This summer has been an incredibly hectic one for most of us – fitting in work, travel and play! But here at the Girl Scout Council we were able to combine all three in one week! Carrie Kurlander, vice president of Southern Co., wrote: “Songs, S’mores. And a future U.S. Supereme Court Justice. I encountered these and more at Camp CEO.”
So what is Camp CEO?
Camp CEO brought together 23 high school girls from the Greater Atlanta council and 23 Executive Women from Atlanta to create teams of mentors and mentees for one week! The participants did team building activities and the girls participated in a program called ‘Dreaming Your Future’. The girls were able to learn about life lessons from each of the women who volunteered their time and energy to be mentors.
Marilyn Midyette, CEO of Girl Scouts of Greater Atlanta said in the AJC, “We knew Camp CEO was going to be an incredible opportunity for these young women, but the results exceeded our greatest expectations. While the girls received significant insights into successful leadership, I believe the executive were surprised by how much they learned form the girls. They’re already planning reunions, while we’re already planning the 2011 camp.”
Helping girls realize their dreams, and showing them the attainability of those dreams, has always been a large part of Girl Scouts mission which is to: build girls of courage, confidence and character who make the world a better place. It is no doubt that for these girls who have dreams like to become a U.S. Supereme Court Justice or goals to run their own non-profit, Girl Scouts has made an impact. Girl Scouts has helped these girls to become courageous, confident and have great character that will help them to make the world a better place both today and in the future.
Do you know of a Girl Scout who has made an impact within her community? We’d love to hear about her! Leave a comment

Camp CEO was so much fun! I had a great time learning from and hanging out iwth my Ceo buddy, Karen Beavor, and all of the other CEOs as well! The ropes course was a lot of fun, and a great team building activity. We (the girls) learned so much from the CEOs, a lot of very useful information, and we madea lot of great contacts (especially through speed networking). It was a great expierience!
